Date: 10 August 2026
Review Date: 10 August 2027
Part 1: Statement of Intent
It is the policy of Sulis Beauty and Holistic Therapies to maintain a safe and healthy environment for both myself and my clients. As a mobile sole trader, I am committed to preventing accidents, minimizing chemical exposure, and ensuring safe working practices within client premises. I will maintain all tools and electrical equipment to professional standards. I will safely manage, transport, and use of all chemical products in line with policy. I will prioritise client safety through rigorous consultation and testing. An accident book is in operation. Signed: _Mandy Ranger_ (Sole Trader / Owner)
Part 2: Specific Arrangements & Safety Procedures
1. Chemical Safety (COSHH) & VentilationStorage & Transport: Hazardous substances (including acetone, lash adhesives, and acrylic monomers) are transported upright in sealed, leak-proof containers within a secure transit box. Inhalation & Fumes: To manage product vapours, I will request adequate ventilation (e.g., an open window or fan) in the client's home during acrylic or lash treatments. Spillages: A basic spill kit (absorbent paper and sealed disposal bags) is carried at all times. Chemical waste is never placed in the client’s domestic bin; it is bagged securely and disposed of commercial-style at my home base.
2. Client Consultations & Mandatory Patch Testing Patch Tests: In strict accordance with manufacturer guidelines and insurance terms, a patch test must be conducted between 24 and 48hrs hours prior to a client's first treatment involving tinting, lash extensions, or intensive chemical products. Records: Digital or physical consultation records detailing allergies, medical history, and signed patch-test confirmations are updated at every visit and stored securely in line with GDPR.
3. Ergonomics & Manual Handling (Massage Couch Safety)
Loading: When loading and unloading the portable massage couch from my vehicle, I use proper lifting techniques (bending at the knees, keeping the spine neutral).Setup: Upon entering a client's home, I conduct a visual check to ensure the floor surface is level and stable before erecting the couch. Client Weight Limits: The couch is regularly checked to ensure structural integrity and compliance with manufacturer weight limits.
4. Personal & Lone Worker Safety Dynamic Risk Assessment: On arrival at any domestic property, I assess the environment for immediate hazards (e.g., aggressive pets, trip hazards, or unsecured wires).Traceability: A trusted personal contact has real-time access to my daily schedule, locations, and expected finish times.
5. Infection Control & Electrical Safety Hygiene: Metal tools undergo full chemical sterilization (e.g., Barbicide) or high-level disinfection between clients. Single-use items are discarded immediately. PAT Testing: All mobile electrical items (UV/LED lamps, e-files) are visually checked for frayed wires before use and undergo annual Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
